Self Care Sunday with TrailBlazhers
COVID-19, “The Rona Era”
Today is Self Care Sunday with TrailBlazhers. We(Black Girls Run and TrailBlazhers) have two sold out running 5k events today. One at 9:45 a.m., the other at 10:45 a.m at Franklin Park. It was great to team up with other women of color running groups in the city. There is a growing number of running groups of color but unfortunately we are in silos. We are slowly networking, communicating with each other, and planning events to help our community. The good, if I can say that word of COVID, is that more people are coming out to run/walk, get out of the house and to social distance with others. Exercise is extremely important during a pandemic.
I was personally happy to the TrailBlazhers founders in person. We have been communicating through zoom. The last time we all were together was in August to tape a session for the Boston virtual running expo. We social distance and ran around Franklin Park. Having the women around motivated me to run faster, which is good. I ran 3.02 miles in 31:09 min at 10:19 min/mil. These ladies know how to hype everyone up. Two of the woman road their bikes to check on the ladies and one member ran with her music speaker to keep the jams going. She was the runner with the theme music.
I love and appreciate seeing black, asian, and latinx women running this morning. What I did notice, was age difference. BGR ladies tend to be in their 40s and up. The TrailBlazher ladies are in their 30s and up. The energy and technology was great.
For me personally, I hate running so late. I sucked it up because I knew this would be a great outing , and it was. This is the best way to kick off the week!!
