Mother's Day Half Marathon

Mother's Day Half Marathon

The last two mother's day I ran in a different state. Last year West Virginia, the year before that Delaware.  This year I didn't have a new state to run in. There were options in Washington and Oregon state but I'm not going out that way just yet. Instead of repeating a state I saw a half in Western Massachusetts on Mother's day. Specifically it was a mother's day half marathon race.

This was my first official mother's day half.  The only gift that I can give my mother on Mother's  day is to run 13.1 miles. That is my promise to her as long as I am healthy and able.

RACE

This race had about 500 runners who ran in  Whately, Massachusetts.  This is a part of the state that I don't get to frequent that often.  It was good running weather.

I saw a man running in shirt that was all sparkled out. He recognized my BGR ambassador shirt. He told me how he use to live in Houston and he saw 4 black men running in races. But now you see more people who don't fit the FFBs.

When I asked him what FFB is, he told me  FIT, FAST, BITCHES. LOL. Wait, I'm not fit or fast. :). He was funny.

The race also benefits cancer connection. There were women running for their moms or loved ones they had lost to cancer. On woman I saw was a cancer survivor and she was running.

The course

This course was mostly flat uphills. It was very windy and twisty. I felt as if I was constantly running up a hill or hills. I had to remind myself that this wasn't West Virginia. In West Virginia I cursed a storm and was ready to fight someone.  In comparison this wasn't bad.

This was country running. I passed farm fields, horse fields, tractors, and even a dead mole on the side of the road. You could smell the fresh horse manure.

I did get a kick at mile 10 when a group of people had Champagne for mom's. LOVED that. I would have taken a cup but one would have lead to two, to three..........................

I kept on running. I was proud of my endurance and stamina while running. Everything picked up after mile 8 when I realized I had the R&B Soul Classic on my phone When I changed the Pandora station to Thumbnail and the music kicked up, so did my E & S.

Overall, it was good and I' glad I did it. Hopefully I won't have to do it again next year. If I do, I'll know what to expect and I'll be ready
